I. Basic Facts about Non-Melee Wars:
II. Files and Installation:
Installing the NMW missions is very easy. Simply put all the files that came with this .zip into your .../Lucasarts/XwingTie/Combat/ directory. Overwrite Mission.lst Rebel.lst and Imperial.lst
Download the Non-Melee War Mission Files (nmw.zip 19Kb)
If you have never modified your .lst files, be sure to *overwrite* the Imperial.lst Rebel.lst and Mission.lst files. You may back them up if you wish, but the overwrite only adds the NMW text to the end of them: you still can access all the other missions in the game. If you have modified your .lst files, simply copy and paste the NMW part (at the very end) of the NMW .lst files into your .lst files.
NOTE for .LST editors: NMW uses .lst slots 601, 602, 603, and 604. Be sure that you haven't assigned these slots to other missions.
The following files are included in this zip:
- Readme.txt
- nmw1-1.tie
- nmw1-2.tie
- nmw1-3.tie
- nmw1-4.tie
- Mission.lst
- Rebel.lst
- Imperial.lst
- nmw1-2.lst
- nmw1-3.lst
- nmw1-4.lst
III. Tips and Hints:
Over the course of about 25 in-game hours of playtesting, we have come up with quite a few strategies for the NMW missions. I won't spoil them, the real joy is trying out something completely new and figuring out how to win it :) Here are some general things that you should know/think of when playing:
- READ THE BRIEFINGS! If you just go in and start shooting, chances are, you'll lose!
- Ship selection is important to the strategy you'll use. Especially in 1v1 games.
- Being able to intercept warheads will make your life MUCH easier :) Use the "i" key to target the nearest warhead. Note: Lag is never a factor in shooting down warheads since they move at a constant speed in a constant direction. We've never had any complaints about "ghosty warheads".
- The 'j' key is important. This will let you jump into your wingman's ship.
- When you die, you will be put in your wingman's ship if he is still alive, so be ready :)
- You don't have unlimited waves. "TIEs don't grow on trees" :)
- In certain missions, you will be able to use reloading craft (shift-b while targeting the craft). Keep in mind, they are much slower than you are, so it will help to fly towards them.
- In game communication with the other people on your team can mean the difference between Victory and Defeat.
- Remember to work towards the mission goals!
- Watch where enemy fighters come from. If they come from a capital ship, and you blow up that ship... no more fighters :)
- In most cases, you can give orders to the rest of the starfighters on your side, even after you die! I've won games even after I've run out of waves in this way!
- General AI commands: Shift-a will make them attack your target. Shift-i will make them ignore your target. There are others, check your XvT documentation under Wingman Commands.
- Keep an eye on the mission goals ("g" key brings them up in-game) and on the Message log ("L" key brings it up in-game).
- Make a strategy! The team with a strategy will beat a team without a strategy 90% of the time.
- Have Fun!

I know that sounds scary, but keep in mind, it's just standard stuff. Remember, these files can't mess your system up unless you make a serious effort to do so. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Make sure you have them in the Combat directory!
Have fun with these, we had a lot of fun making them for you!
